She sits between leaves
Deciding which branch to take
The one that looks familiar
Or the one that looks fake

The moon smiles crookedly
As she struggles to choose
There’s not enough light to shine on
All that she’s about to lose

How ever far below
Looks better than up high
A worm in the dirt
Is better than bird’s eye

Boy, you’ve repeated your past
Of empty bottles & broken glass
For each step forward
You take six steps back

She will come for you in your sleep
To take your broken soul to keep
Making promises
Pretending to weep

Patterns repeat as habits mend
You try to forget, you try to pretend
But The Devil will follow you
Until the next end

A man walking backwards
Bumped into a woman doing the same
Both trying to retrace their steps
Outlining the blame

The man looked weary
As if to take his last breath
He had spent years searching
For his perfect early death

The woman looked young
Full of joy and life
She had spent years searching
For a man to make her his wife

She thought it could be him
He was once full of charm & kind
So she reminded him of this
Changing the man’s mind

He no longer forced Death
To come knocking at his door
But now he found himself
Always wanting more

She gave and gave
Until she could no longer give
It still wasn’t enough for him
Now she wished to not live

Years had slowly passed
They were all starting to blur
So the man started walking
This time it was forward
